Three steps to compare heights
- Add people or anything elseQuick-add a person, search the sourced catalog, or start from a preset.
- Enter heights in cm or ft/inEvery subject sits on one baseline and one scale, so the gap is exactly what the numbers say.
- Share or downloadA link rebuilds the board for anyone. Export PNG, HD, square or SVG, or copy the image.
Common height comparison scenarios

What is a height comparison?
A height comparison places two or more people side by side on the same scale, so you can see how their heights relate instead of only reading numbers. A difference of 10 cm is easy to state but hard to picture. Drawn to scale, it becomes obvious whether two people would stand eye to eye or one would look up at the other.
HeightViz draws everyone from a shared ground line using one linear scale. A person entered at 180 cm is drawn exactly 20% taller than a person entered at 150 cm, and the ruler, grid lines and labels follow the same scale.
How to compare heights
- Enter a name and height for each person, in centimetres or in feet and inches.
- Select Add another person to compare up to 10 people. Use the menu on each row to reorder people, switch between a male and female figure, or remove someone.
- Choose cm or ft/in to change the units on the chart.
- Pick two people below the chart to see the exact height difference between them.
- Select Share to copy a link, or Download to save the chart as an image.
The chart updates as you type, so you can try different heights and see the result straight away.
Height comparison charts
A height comparison chart is the visual result: figures standing on a common baseline next to a vertical ruler. Charts are a quick way to compare family members, friends, partners or teammates, to plan group photos and costumes, or to see how a character's height would look next to a real person.
The ruler adjusts to the tallest person, so the chart stays readable whether you compare two children or a group of very tall adults. The figures represent height only; their body shapes are illustrative. The Height Comparison Chart page starts from example people you can edit, and the Size Comparison tool puts animals, objects and buildings on the same scale.
CM vs feet and inches
HeightViz stores every height in centimetres and converts it for display, so switching units never changes the comparison itself. One inch is defined as exactly 2.54 centimetres, and one foot is 12 inches, or 30.48 cm.
To convert centimetres to feet and inches, divide by 2.54 to get inches, then divide by 12: the whole number is feet and the remainder is inches. For example, 180 cm ÷ 2.54 = 70.9 inches, which is 5 feet 10.9 inches, or 5'11" when rounded to the nearest inch. To convert back, multiply the feet by 12, add the inches and multiply by 2.54.
Common height examples
This table converts common heights between centimetres and feet and inches, rounded to the nearest inch. Average heights vary by country, sex and generation, so it is usually more useful to compare the actual people you have in mind than a single typical height.
| Centimetres | Feet and inches | Inches |
|---|---|---|
| 150 cm | 4'11" | 59.1 in |
| 155 cm | 5'1" | 61 in |
| 160 cm | 5'3" | 63 in |
| 165 cm | 5'5" | 65 in |
| 170 cm | 5'7" | 66.9 in |
| 175 cm | 5'9" | 68.9 in |
| 180 cm | 5'11" | 70.9 in |
| 185 cm | 6'1" | 72.8 in |
| 190 cm | 6'3" | 74.8 in |
| 195 cm | 6'5" | 76.8 in |
| 200 cm | 6'7" | 78.7 in |
Frequently asked questions
How accurate is the height comparison?
Everyone is drawn on one linear scale from the same ground line, so the relative heights on the chart match the numbers you enter. The silhouettes are illustrations: they show height accurately but do not represent anyone's real body shape.
How many people can I compare?
You can compare between 2 and 10 people at once. When many people are shown on a small screen, scroll the chart sideways to see everyone.
Can I compare heights in feet and inches?
Yes. Each person's height can be entered in centimetres or in feet and inches, and the Unit switch changes the units shown on the chart. Conversions use 1 inch = 2.54 cm.
How do I share my height comparison?
Select Share to copy a link to your comparison. Anyone who opens the link sees the same people, heights and colours. On most phones, Share opens your device's share menu instead.
Does HeightViz save the names and heights I enter?
No. Your comparison is not saved to an account or a database. A shared link contains the names and heights in the link itself, so only share it with people you are comfortable seeing them.
Can I download the chart as an image?
Yes. Download offers a standard PNG, an HD PNG at three times the resolution, a square PNG for social posts and an SVG for design tools. You can also copy the image straight to the clipboard. Every export has a clean white background.
Can I embed a height comparison on my own website?
Yes. Choose Copy embed code from the Download menu to get an image tag that always shows the current board, ready for a blog post or forum.
Can I compare a person with an animal, a building or an object?
Yes. Open the Animals, Objects, Buildings or Vehicles category, or search the catalog, to add anything with a sourced height. The chart switches to metres automatically when something very tall joins the board, and every subject keeps the same scale.
Where do the heights of athletes, animals and buildings come from?
Every catalog figure is read from a named source, such as an official league profile, a zoo or museum reference, a rulebook, or the building operator, and each page shows that source with the date it was checked. Nothing is estimated or averaged from unverified sites.
Why does a friend look shorter or taller than the chart suggests?
The chart draws exactly what you enter, measured to the top of the head on a level floor. Posture, footwear, hairstyle and where you stand all change how a difference looks in person, so a gap of a few centimetres can seem larger or smaller than it is.
